University of California Davis Silo Evaluation
National Register of Historic Places / California Register of Historical Resources Evaluation
JRP evaluated the Silo Building, a converted dairy barn on the University of California Davis campus, for National Register of Historic Places and California Register of Historical Resources eligibility. The Silo Building was constructed in 1908 as the primary dairy barn for the nascent university and has since been converted to a multi-purpose student center. The barn reflects the early agricultural identity of UC Davis, which began as the University Farm for the UC system. The building was constructed in the Shingle style, an architectural aesthetic that predominated in the early development of the campus. Few vestiges of the barn’s early agricultural role remain, with the surrounding pastoral acreage developed with mid-to-late twentieth century campus construction and the removal of many original dairy-related interior and exterior features.
