National Register of Historic Places / California Register of Historical Resources Evaluation

JRP evaluated the Lick Observatory campus consisting of a total of 59 buildings and structures built between 1881 and the present.  JRP evaluated all of the buildings and structures built in or before 1962 for eligibility for both the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and California registers.  This project included preparation of a historic context and results of the intensive architectural inventory and evaluation of Lick Observatory. JRP concluded that five buildings, including the Main Building and the Crossley, Shane, and Carnegie Telescope domes, appeared to be individually eligible for the NRHP. JRP also provided recommendations to restore key buildings within a potential historic district.  The Lick Observatory project illustrates JRP’s experience and expertise in assessing complex high-technology scientific facilities.
